Tour 4A – Unter den Linden Literary Tour
This is where kings resided! The boulevard „Unter den Linden“ used to be the place to see and to be seen in Berlin. Thanks to the reconstruction of most of the classicist buildings destroyed in WW II, we can easily imagine the times when people strolled along the boulevard in order to cast an eye on the Queen’s carriage or see the King ride past. This is where flaneurs and writers frequented the first coffee houses writing down what they had just encountered in the street. Thus, we will get to know the street through their eyes describing it as the place of military parades, of nazi propaganda or as the path to the execution scaffold for 70,000 books.
Selected texts from Heinrich Heine, Christa Wolf, Erich Kästner, Kurt Tucholsky, Arnold Zweig etc.
