Tour 6A – Old Berlin & its legends
Is Berlin a haunted place? This would hardly be surprising since the capital was built on sand and swamp. Entering the world of Berlin legends, we will explore the foundings of Berlin and listen to legends from the 6th century when the Slavs populed the area. Furthermore, we will hear from margrave Albert the Bear settling down in Brandenburg in the 12th century. In the shadow of Berlin’s oldest tree, we find remnants of the medieval surrounding walls and enjoy the story of a buried treasure below its roots. Some interesting stories unfold about the devil and the stone cross of the Church of St. Mary near Alexanderplatz. This is where we come across the oldest Berlin poetry dating from the time during the plague. Finally, Unter den Linden we give attention to the story of the White Lady of City Castle and to other ghost stories.
